“Calling is not a
strategy.”

Let me be clear: God absolutely provides.
When we are walking in His will — faithfully plowing, planting, and
obeying — He brings rain in season.

But while He does supply, Scripture also calls us to
count the cost before we build.

That’s the tension I want to talk about today — especially for those
of us launching or leading nonprofits, ministries, and mission-driven
organizations:

How do we hold faith in one hand…
…and build with wisdom in the other?

Because here’s what the data says:

More than 50% of nonprofits don’t make it past year
five.
And over 30% close permanently by year
ten.

And those that do survive?

Many are stuck in burnout, bottlenecks, or misalignment — simply
because they never built scalable systems while things were
still small
.

My Reality (And Maybe
Yours, Too)

When I launched AWAKE Women’s Ministry, I wasn’t
flying blind.

I had:

But what I began to realize is that:

  1. Planning 3 months out isn’t enough when the assignment is
    > generational
    .

  2. Even Spirit-led work must be structurally
    supported.

  3. Systems don’t just need to work today — they must scale
    > tomorrow.

That’s why I wrote Build Different.
To give language and structure to what God-breathed vision actually
requires from us in practice.

And in At His Feet In His Service, I share the posture
required to keep your soul healthy while leading something
holy.

The
4 Structural Fault Lines That Threaten Even the Most Anointed
Ministries

This series will explore each of these in depth — but for now, I want
to outline them here:

1. Underbuilding
Infrastructure

Nonprofits that scale well don’t just ask:
“What’s needed for this season?”
They ask:
“What will break if we double next quarter?”

The Stanford Social Innovation Review describes a common trap:

The “Nonprofit Starvation Cycle” — where leaders
unintentionally underinvest in admin, ops, or internal systems to appear
lean… only to collapse under their own impact later.

2. Overhead
Aversion = Growth Limitation

There’s a harmful belief that all overhead is wasteful. But
things like:

…are actually holy stewardship.

“Overhead” isn’t a cost to hide. It’s oxygen for
long-term ministry health.

3. Identity-Mission
Entanglement

If you are your ministry, then any success or setback becomes
personal.

But you are not your nonprofit.
You are not your newsletter click rate.
You are not your giving report.

You are a servant. A daughter. A seed-sower.
Your assignment may evolve — but your identity is
unshakable
in Christ.

I explore this fully in At His Feet In His Service — because
sustainability doesn’t start with structure. It starts with soul
posture
.

4. Weak Strategic
Questioning

Most founders ask: “How do I raise money?” or “What’s our
mission?”

But what if we asked:

In Build Different, I call these sacred NEPQ-style
questions
. They don’t just inform your model — they protect
your longevity.

Action Step: Do a
Leadership Check-In

If you’ve read this far, let me ask:

Where do you feel most stretched right now?
Where is the Spirit nudging you to build differently — even if no one
else sees it?

Take 10 minutes today and reflect on these four areas:

Category My Score (1–10) Notes
Infrastructure Strength
Healthy Overhead Mindset
Identity vs Role Clarity
Depth of Strategic Questions

The lowest-scoring area is your invitation to start there. Not from
fear. From faith-informed foresight.

What’s Next in the
Series?

Over the next 4 weeks, I’ll go deeper into each of these 4 areas —
one article at a time — to give you practical, Spirit-led
insight
into how to build a nonprofit or ministry that actually
lasts.

Final Thought

You don’t have to be overwhelmed.
You don’t have to build alone.
But you do have to build wisely.

God gave you the seed.
Now let’s steward the soil.
